WRFL Umpire Shorts - March/April 2017

We're well into the season now and there's been plenty going on in the group.

WRFL Umpires at VFL

Ex-WRFL boundary umpire Lewis Spiker has been elevated to the VFL Senior Panel, on the back of two excellent seasons with the development squad and a stint in the inaugural AFLW.

Congratulations to Ryan Webster (field), Mitchell Taleb (goal) and Riley Kane (boundary) for reaching the development squad. Ryan's debut came early, taking control of the clash between Geelong Falcons and GWV Rebels at Kardinia Park. Mitch will be kept busy as he juggles umpiring commitments with his football career at Newport.

Interleague

Congratulations to Shamus Dundon, Michael Westgarth, Adam Cosham, Robert Hill, Abishek Sharma and Christine Gent who have all been appointed to interleague matches across the state. These matches give our umpires a great opportunity to experience football at a higher level, run with umpires from other leagues and receive feedback from state-level observers.

Lights On

The new lights at Hanmer Reserve began operating on 20 April. The redevelopment of the rooms remains ongoing, but the group has settled in well at the new Seddon training base.

Milestones

If you are aware of any impending milestones, let us know. Paul Battaglia reached the magical 350 Division One matches mark in the R16 clash between Spotswood and Sunshine last year, Vaughan Garner brought up 100 Division One games in the recent Good Friday match, and last but not least, boundary umpire Jarod Sutton (pictured) played his 150th match for Wyndham Suns in a big victory over Albanvale last week.
